Angles - types, on a straight line and around point

There are all kinds of angles that you need to know for your GCSE Maths examination. For information on angles in a triangle and angles in circle, take a look at these songs which can provide you with all the information you need to know.

In this blog, we are going to take a look at the types of angles that you will find throughout the syllabus:

  • Right angles - these are angles of 90 degrees and they are easily seen in rectangles and squares which are made up entirely of right angles

  • Acute angles - these are angles that are less than 90 degrees

  • Obtuse angles - these are angles of any size between 90 degrees and 180 degrees

  • Reflex angles - these are angles that are greater than 180 degrees

Now let us summarise the main points about angles on a straight line and angles around a point.

  • Angles on a straight line always add up to 180 degrees

  • Angles around a point always add up to 360 degrees

There are no exception to these rules so these are the crucial facts to remember. To learn about these facts one more, have a listen to our song - they are sure to be stuck in your head for your examination on the new GCSE Mathematics syllabus.
